Working in health and social care can be challenging, and staff must be ready to manage aggression safely, legally, and compassionately. At Prospero Health & Social Care, PMVA training is part of our CPD training offer, helping you stay up to date with best practice and build confidence. We deliver in-person training so you can practise techniques safely, and our wider CPD portfolio includes courses such as manual handling, first aid, and safeguarding. Our training is designed as part of a continuous professional development journey, not just a single module.
PMVA training gives care staff the skills and knowledge to manage aggression safely and responsibly. Key elements include:
Recognition & de-escalation: spotting early signs and calming situations verbally or non-verbally
Risk assessment: staying aware of triggers and environmental factors
Physical interventions: safe holds, breakaways, and restraint techniques when necessary
Legal & ethical frameworks: understanding duty of care, Human Rights, and relevant legislation
Post-incident processes: reporting, debriefing, and learning from events
Trauma and Mental Health: Understanding the link between trauma, mental health, and potential aggression, enabling empathetic and effective care.
Restrictive Interventions and National Guidelines: Learning about safe, ethical use of restrictive interventions and the Positive and Proactive Care (2014) framework.
Human Rights-Based Approach: Ensuring care is delivered with dignity and respect, forming the foundation for positive and proactive practices.
Causes of Violence and Aggression: Recognising triggers and underlying factors to anticipate and respond effectively, fostering a safer environment.
