Prospero have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Child Support Worker in the vibrant Portsmouth area.

As a Child Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in supporting individuals with a diverse range of needs, including learning difficulties, autism, SEMH needs and issues relating to trauma. You will have the chance to work in various settings, including people’s homes, secure children’s homes, children’s homes, and within the community. The role of Child Support Worker offers you the chance to be there for young people who need your support the most.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Care and nurture vulnerable children with varying levels of mental health issues, providing them with the support they require.
  • Assist in the completion of care plans, risk assessments, incident and accident reports, and contribute to regular reviews.
  • Offer physical and emotional support, including assistance with household tasks and personal care.
  • Facilitate the implementation of individual programs, supporting learning, independence, and enriching experiences.
  • Manage the well-being and behaviours of the children, ensuring that any significant occurrences are addressed promptly and appropriately.
  • Create a safe and compassionate environment for young people, effectively handling a range of challenging behaviour.
  • Support daily routines, from waking up and maintaining house routines to engaging in activities outside.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients, families, and external health care professionals, adhering to company policies and procedures.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to various situations.
  • High levels of patience and emotional resilience.
  • Non-judgemental attitude towards individuals with diverse needs.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure and when faced with challenging situations.
  • Previous experience working with children in a similar setting.
  • Ability to keep up with changing standards and codes of conduct in the social care sector.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience as a child support worker, particularly with vulnerable young people and those with a variety of SEMH needs.
  • Valid DBS on the Update Service.
  • Preferably hold a valid driver’s license as some locations may be spread out.
  • Preferably possess a Level 3 qualification in supporting children and young people.
  • Full right to work in the UK.

  • Excellent salary: Your pay will be based on the complexity of the individuals you support, your qualifications, and experience. Our pay starts at £15.00 per hour.
  • Restraint Training: We provide training such as PMVA and Team Teach to ensure you have the necessary skills to handle challenging situations safely, training at our Southampton office.

  • Travel Expenses: Receive 40p per mile to cover your travel expenses.
