Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Location: Meldreth, Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire border

Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist looking for a specialist role where you can make a real impact? This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated multi-disciplinary team, supporting children, young people and young adults with complex communication and dysphagia needs.

The Role

This position offers a varied and rewarding caseload, working across specialist education and residential settings for individuals aged 6 to 30 years with moderate to profound learning disabilities (MLD-PMLD), autism, ADHD and associated complex medical and sensory needs. You will be responsible for:

  • Managing and prioritising a caseload including communication and dysphagia needs
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments for communication, eating and drinking support
  • Developing individual therapy programmes for communication, assistive technology, swallowing and feeding
  • Delivering therapy interventions to individuals, small groups or within the classroom
  • Providing training and guidance to staff and families to support total communication strategies
  • Supervising and line managing a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant
  • Working closely with an interdisciplinary team, contributing to EHCPs and individual education plans

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree or master’s in Speech and Language Therapy
  • HCPC and RCSLT registration
  • Post-graduate dysphagia training and competencies at Level C of the RCSLT Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Competency Framework (EDSCF)
  • Experience supporting children and young people with SEND, PMLD, ASD and complex communication needs
  • Knowledge of AAC systems, positive behaviour support, IDDSI and dysphagia interventions
  • Experience working within education, residential or early years settings and delivering provision through the EHCP process
